OSIRIS-REx Capsule Returnswith 250g of Bennu Soil

In a remarkable achievement for space exploration, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft has successfully concluded its mission by bringing back a valuable cargo of 250 grams of soil collected from the asteroid Bennu. This triumph not only highlights the extraordinary capabilities of contemporary space technology but also offers profound implications for our comprehension of the origins of the solar system and the potential for future space missions. Launched by NASA in September 2016, the OSIRIS-REx mission had a singular objective: to procure a sample from Bennu, a near-Earth asteroid positioned approximately 200 million miles away from our planet. Bennu was selected for its scientific significance, as it is considered a relic from the early solar system, preserving invaluable insights into the formation of celestial bodies and the dispersion of organic materials within our cosmic vicinity. Following a meticulous two-year journey to Bennu and an extensive survey of the asteroid's surface, OS...

NASA's Perseverance rover produces oxygen on Mars

The NASA Perseverance rover has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully producing oxygen for the first time on Mars. NASA announced that the MOXIE (Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment) device within the rover generated oxygen on the Martian surface. This achievement resulted in the production of 122 grams of oxygen, which is sufficient to sustain a small dog for approximately 10 hours. Mars has an atmosphere that consists primarily of 96% carbon dioxide, which is not suitable for human respiration. MOXIE, located within the Perseverance rover, possesses the capability to extract oxygen atoms from the thin Martian atmosphere and can produce 128 grams of oxygen per hour. NASA views this historic test as confirmation that producing oxygen for future settlements on Mars or the Moon is feasible in the near future. This technology opens the possibility of creating oxygen reserves on other celestial bodies and even using it for launching rockets from these planets....
